Screening printing
Have you ever heard an inspiring quote or had a friend say something so funny that you thought to yourself, “that should be on a shirt.” Well, with the advancement in modern technology, printer manufacturers have made it possible to not only design your own shirt, but make it right at home. Of course every printer is a bit different, but there are basic steps to screen printing that are easy enough for just about anyone to understand.
First, gather the materials that you will need. Obviously the bare necessities would be a plain t-shirt, an iron-on transfer and an iron. There are other smaller things that will be needed to complete the process, including software for your computer. Most of the time, the software will come with the computer when it is purchased, but occasionally it is sold separately and will need to be loaded. Not only does this software help set up the design of the shirt, but it also provides a template so the images and words you choose to put will remain centralized with the font you choose.
You may be wondering why someone would go through the trouble of printing their own shirts when there are companies that will do it for relatively cheap. Let’s say you have a group that is participating in a marathon and need to raise money that will go to a foundation for the research and cure of cancer. You have asked family members for donations and received a few, but your team needs to brainstorm other ways to raise money. If someone has the appropriate printer, you guys could design and make shirts with your team name, last names, or even sponsors and sell them for maybe $5 or $10 each. That would be an extra $500 or so dollars, all thanks to your printer.
