We, as members of a broad-based
network for local action in urban and growing
communities, recognize the power of parks and
natural areas to
- Improve the health
of the natural environment;
- Spur neighborhood reinvestment;
- Improve flood control
and water quality, and enhance the ability of
communities to address storm water issues;
- Offer families real,
affordable
alternatives to ex-urban growth;
- Provide youth recreational
alternatives to crime and drugs;
- Promote multigenerational
experiences;
- Provide educational
opportunities to make nature relevant to city
residents;
- Address issues of environmental
justice; and
- Celebrate cultural
heritage and diversity.
We pledge to identify
and honor our common ground through the refinement
and application of the Community Open Space
Partnership Principles.
We strive to form an Open
Space Agenda for the 21st Century, to identify
and support effective partnerships and model
projects, and to create changes to established
policies and institutions.
We value the free exchange
of information about people, tools, skills and
funding opportunities supporting parks and natural
areas.
We pledge our support
as Members of the Community Open Space Partnership,
and we dedicate ourselves to improving the biological,
social, and economic health of communities through
innovative green infrastructure and
land use policy reform.
